My story with note taking and how I built my own ideal note taking app

  1. 2

Great read Nathan and smart use of AMP! I also really liked the premise of the Personal CRM - I have my own setup in Excel despite trying out other tools like MonicaHQ but yours looks very neat and clean - would definitely have considered it had I known about it before 🎇.

P.S.: the link to the CRM in paragraph titled "Limitations of traditional note taking" is missing the first letter and is broken (at.app instead of nat.app).

      Hey,

Thanks for sharing your experience! Yeah Monica has been around for quite a few years :)

Thanks for the broken link - just fixed it!

Out of curiosity, how does your Excel set up look like?

Well Excel can only take you so far 😅 so it's more a matter of convenience rather than efficiency at this point. It's a "master workbook" synced to OneDrive that has sheets for major "themes" in my life e.g. there's one for "Friends", one for "👨‍👩‍👧‍👦Family", one for "📀Software", "📚Books" (this one is the most complex and detailed) and so on.

The "Personal CRM" ones have sections ranging from personal information (e.g. name, company, comments, allergies, etc.) to notes (which is the CRM part where I track last meetings, when to reach out, etc.). I tried to migrate to Notion a year or so back but I found it to be cumbersome for my use case and Monica is great but has too many features. Finally, I did create my own CRM using Vue.js (who hasn't, at this point?) but I went back to Excel 💯. Not sure if that helps but yeah that's the setup!

Got it! Thanks yeah that's awesome! Thanks!
