My ultra-niche job board earned $62,197 last month

Since 2019, I've been building a job board called Japan Dev.

It's 100% bootstrapped — the only employees are my wife and me.

In July, it made $62,197 in revenue... despite being super niche.

Today I released a blog post telling the whole story.

It covers topics like:
• How I attracted my first clients
• The unique way I monetize the service
• How I found effective marketing channels
• Ways to overcome the "cold start problem"
• Incorporating a company as a foreigner in Japan
• ...and a lot more.

Great job! I'm really glad to see someone doing something like this. I think it's a great idea and it's definitely needed.

Great writeup. And It reminded me how marketing is important that building one.

      Thanks! And yeah, no doubt.

Developers tend to jump right into building since that's what we know, but distribution is more important for most indie projects imo.

    Hey Eric!
How do you make sure customers pay after they get a hire? How do you keep track? Is it all just good faith? I'd like to try your model.

Your success story is really cool, Eric. Congrats!

Just curious though, why didn't you also do the same thing about remote work? (Is remote not that popular there?)

      1. 1

The majority of our jobs are remote-friendly!

        It's very popular since covid.
