My Very Best Goal To Focus on To Find The First Paying Costumer

Getting first paying costumer is very intimidating for me. The amount of friction I'm encountering is real.

Having almost no experience and disastrous amount of variables I'm encountering makes the process, well, hard.

This is my thought process to keep going and generate result.

Background

I've created an app for parents. It's good. It has no users. I have a strong belief people would be happy to use that.

Screw the number downloads

For some reason, thinking about getting 1000 or so downloads does not work for me. But the other goal do work.

Here it is.

Find the marketing channel that works

I've put a really simple goal in front of myself: find the marketing channel that will work for me and my app to get downloads. That's all.

I've listed the first marketing channels to tink around:

  • IG stories
  • Google Ads
  • Messaging people
  • Influencer marketing
  • Buying blog posts

And so on and so on.

The next step is to move down with that list doing meaninful bunch of work each time.

What I've done

  • Messaged about 20 people who've mentioned similar app and asked them to check out my app
  • Message 10 relevant subreddits for a permission to post a link (couple of no's, a single yes!, one 'maybe')
  • Created a 10$ campaign (😎) on Google Ads

Avoiding the rabbit whole

Each step in the entrepreneurial journey can take me down into a rabbit whole of doom. For example, when I was creating a google ad I've started researching good headlines. Then I got into copywriting tips, then it was 10 articles bookmarked I had to dive to make some titles.

While all of that will make its difference I've stopped myself and decided to use common sense to create nice headlines.

  • Using keywords
  • Describing value
  • Adding call to action

That's all. Then I've created 5 oka-ish titles and moved on. In a couple of days I would adjust my copy in the ads.

Create assets

I've sat down and wrote 5 genuine cold-message I would send to people. Some are to connect to influencers, some are to connect to strangers (that are using similar apps) some are to connect to mods of subreddits (wish me luck).

Having that text-assets makes me more organised and just saves time.

Conclusions

Set practical goals. Avoid the rabbit whole. Use common sense.

Getting the first paying costumer may be hard, but having a nice practical plan will make things easier.
