My Year of Startups

I've been a software engineer for the past 8 years working on a number of interesting and boring projects. But after 8 years of working in startups I've nothing to show for all the time I spent working for someone else. Last year after a long 4-month trekking expedition in the mountains I decided it's time I started working towards my dream of starting my own SAAS business solving a real-world problem. A month ago I've received a call from a recruiter in silicon valley offering me a software developer job which I respectfully declined. That's when I knew that I was either ready to make my own products or I really hate working for someone. Either way I decided to go ahead and give it a try.

When I was researching about what ideas to work on for the next 12 months I came upon the indie hackers community and I was especially impressed with the stories of Pieter Levels & several others. I took inspiration from Pieter's 12 startups in 12 months blog and decided to do my own version of that idea. I like the throwing spaghetti at the wall approach that Peter advocates. I'm someone who is hyper and crave for new projects to work on constantly, So this should work out perfectly for me.

So here's what I'm going to do :

• Release a product each month
• Share all the metrics and milestones publicly
• Finally, I'll consider this experiment a success if I reach $1500 MRR as a whole.

That amount of money should allow me to basically work out of most places in South East Asia or Southern Europe. I hope this journey towards financial freedom, meaningful work and eventually self-actualization becomes successful. I'll keep you updated about how the experiment is going on, that's all for now.
