Curious about how you got your very first customer?

I was curious also, I still didn't have my first customer for my icons product.
I was/am spending so much time marketing in groups and communities, yet my first customer found me on google after couple days of the launch! It was for startnewapp if you are interested

Bear with me, newbie and first post. I must say it’s been challenging finding relevant, helpful, and authentic information though this site seems promising. As a first time founder, launching a Vertical B2B SaaS product for the highly specialized area of Workers’ Compensation Medical Benefits and Decision Support, I’ve struggled to get traction with gaining leads outside my own network, though hopeful to pick up some tips and learn ways others in this forum have been successful, especially anyone in a similar situation, niche B2B products that are highly specialized and require sophisticated knowledge to understand and maximize the value they offer.
Regarding my first client, albeit full disclosure I’m still in the process of doting the i’s and crossing the t’s of the contract, though I’d still consider them my first customer, so with that said, the path to making them my customer was based on a blend of experience they have had with me in prior roles and the unique solution I offer which isn’t available anywhere else. Mind you they initially weren’t looking for the solution I offer directly, instead they wanted my help with creating a tool they could use internally to help bridge a gap they have in normalizing disparate sources of data. Even now, despite the solution I offer eliminating the need for them to build a tool to bridge the gap across disparate data sources or implement an internal process for addressing unstructured data, they still seem unsure about the potential benefits, something I’m struggling to clearly articulate, making it difficult to explain to potential clients when I’m trying to share the value proposition offered. Any feedback here would be greatly appreciated.
p.s. thanks for bearing with me, I tend to be verbose , lol

In my case it was a bit of luck, for a job I didn't even know I wanted to do. During quarantine (I was still a student and not working) I saw on an acquaintance's Instagram story that they were looking for someone who knew how to make sites on Shopify. I had had some experience in the past and to fill the us I replied to the story. I created that website for about €300, if not less. But thanks to that first job I got to know another client, whom I call my first real client. He was a friend of my first contact and he too needed a site, a more complex one, for a clothing shop. I created the site and he is still my client today. I manage his ecommerce site, communication and social media. He is what I consider the first client of what is now my communication agency.
Thank you so much for sharing your incredible journey! It's fascinating how a mix of luck, skill, and seizing the moment opened the door to what is now your thriving communication agency.
Your story perfectly encapsulates the unexpected paths to finding that pivotal first client. Would you be interested in being featured? Your experience could inspire many others navigating their early stages. Let me know your thoughts.
I am really glad you enjoyed my story, especially since it is very important to me as the butterfly effect of that event has led to today, having my own solid and well established digital agency. I would be more than happy to tell my story within your newsletter!

Hi Naveen - I am in the same exact boat! I'm choosing a hyper-niche approach to see if I can find customers who can afford and value my services. I'm choosing places like Indie Hackers, Product Hunt, and Gumroad to build a following and hopefully grow from there...
It depends on the product, but also on friends and family. Just be sure to pass "mom's test."
I'm starting a newsletter focused on the unique stories of how entrepreneurs acquired their first customer. Your perspective about the importance of product and personal connections could provide invaluable insights to our readers. Would you be interested in sharing more about your journey and the role of the 'mom's test' in it? It would be a great addition to our collection of stories.
Will do. I just started here, give me some times to plan posts :D
When I first started promoting my brand on SNS, my first customer happened when they reached out to me directly. At that time, I was running a fashion startup and had organized a competition. This customer expressed interest in the competition, initiated contact, and eventually became a loyal customer!
Your journey to landing your first customer is both inspiring and unique!
