The part that took the time was that names aren't strings, they're grammar. Czech and Slovak surnames inflect by sex (-ová), so do Lithuanian (-aitė) and Latvian and Bulgarian; Irish takes Ní/Nic. Spain and Portugal carry two surnames. Hungary writes the surname first. Dutch and German particles (van der, von) have to be handled in the initials as well as the name.

Bolt any of that on afterwards and it's wrong. Every one of these is a real bug in somebody's name-matching code right now.
