Native language or english?

Hi !

I'm David from Spain.

I'm working in a side-project to create a "no-coder" profile similar to a LinkedIn profile but much simple and visual... You can take a look here https://join.no-code.link/

One of the ideas that I have is to grow the product through a community that gives value to the product (job board, forum, courses, tutorials, etc.)

My native language is Spanish and I am not very comfortable with English (especially in conversation). So I feel that when I go to try to do community actions it can be very demotivating....

In English I can communicate my product and attract customers through large platforms such as IH, PH, Reddit, etc. But in Spanish I can feel more comfortable when communicating and I can try to turn my product into a reference for no-code in Spain.

Has anyone had to make a similar decision? What do you recommend?

Thank you very much !

    Hola David!

    A couple of thoughts:

If you do it in English, it will help you improve your English, which could be a good investment into your personal skills for future projects/ work.

If the project is only a fun hobby project, then do it in the language you think you are most likely to be motivated by to work on the project.

    Good luck on your project!

I think you can look at it from two viewpoints.

It will be "easier" to promote in English, in the sense that you have access to a wider audience and knowledge of communities to push your product in, in English.

It will also be harder - you're less familiar with the language, there's more competition.

I think you should analyze the pros and cons for yourself - in my opinion though it would be more fun to be one of the fewer to do it in Spanish!
