Any advice on where to go next?
I've got a 5 year old Macbook Pro that seems to have committed harikari
And if you can imagine it, my 5 year old Windows laptop from HP isn't much more use.
Too many options, none stand out as perfect.
I'd like the capability to keep using my HDMI connected huge commercial NEC display ( in other words ability to use and HDMI connected second monitor) as I do a lot of design oriented work
I won't buy another Windows machine unless Microsoft makes it because the way they could care less about supporting non-MS gear
I am told to not but a 2019 Macbook mostly due to keyboard hate ...
MS Surface Studio seems a lot questionable for the price and Mac Pro is just laughable even from a longtime creative director/designer perspective
Any guidance on new hardware is very much appreciated!
I bought myself a ThinkPad about 2 years ago because I loved the hardware. Matte finish and mil-spec dust resistance meant I could use it in the backyard without worrying.
As much as I loved the hardware, switching to Windows destroyed my productivity. I thought I'd get used to it but it's like my brain is in power save mode when I try to use it. I finally caved last week and ordered a MacBook. The keyboard doesn't bother me, but since I use an external keyboard most of the time it's not as big a deal to me. As long as you're diligent about cleaning the keyboard often with compressed air, it should be fine.
The only thing that I regret about buying Apple again is that they're not upgradeable. Everything's fused together in the factory and there's a long list of reasons why you'd need a mobo replacement. I've got a 2009 MacBook that I've upgraded and kept in running condition even past its "expiration" date and it pains me to think I'll never buy another computer that'll allow me to do that. If Apple still supported MacOS on this model, and I could connect it to my dock, I'd be perfectly happy staying with my "vintage" laptop.
Would you prefer a laptop or desktop?
Do you have a budget in mind?
What’s the urgency in acquiring a new computer? Do you need it ASAP or can you wait a few months?
Hey thanks for the follow up.
I decided to go over to BestBuy today and look and get a feel for the options
I decided as a designer I really like the form factor of the removable screen on the Surface Book 3
Found it a little cheaper on amazon and pulled the trigger.
