Need advice on using the community's free work in my app

Hi,

I released a new platform for playing RPGs's last month and grew an amazing community there (https://www.rolegate.com/).

A lot of its members offered to help the website for free, with things like visual assets, or more recently translation.

The thing is that I want to generate income from the website, so I am not sure that I can legally take their work.

Anyone knows how I can go about that?

Sure you can. Just look at how the big companies do it. Usually they have some agreement in their legal documents about granting right to transmit, distribute, publish, performe, world-wide and royalty free blah blah. So that they can use stuff you upload in their site and you can sue them for it. You could do the same?

But it wouldn't be something that they would upload on the website. More like something that they would send me and that I would integrate to the platform.

Sure. I get that. But you can apply the same principle. You just need a way that's on record that transfers the rights to you or gives you rights to use it. How you accomplish that is up to you.

For now, my plan is to tag users as "contributors" with various levels as you proposed.

I am planning to add some way for users to generate income from the platform by receiving "tips" from other players.
This tip is in the shape of tokens. You buy a pack of these token (essentially copper/silver/gold/platinum coins) and use them to "tip" a part of a game that you really like.

The coin that you tip goes to the user who wrote the line, and they can ultimately exchange the coins they collected for real money.

So what I am thinking to do is give out a bunch of these coins to contributors for free (paid from my pocket), at the height of their contribution.

              Another good advice :)
The coins system is not for now because I assume dealing with money makes everything more complicated! I will only implement it once I'll be able to afford to hire professionals for the accounting and security side of things.
