Hi,
I am the author of the app "Gentle Wakeup" which turns any Android device into a professional wake-up light. With over 300,000 downloads people really love the app and are willing to buy the pro version, but only after they tried the app some days.
I wanted to switch from having a pro version to In-App purchase. I would like to know your ideas which parts would be best to turn into In-App purchase.
Also I would like to know your opinion weather a monthly subscription would work for any current or future function. The app makes people happy every day so they might be willing to pay monthly but from my opinion people would only accept this if they get new content for it every month.
Also I would like to know if maybe too much is offered free currently in the app.
You can download the app for free at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.changemystyle.gentlewakeup
Thanks for your help. If you like the app and have some advices for me I can give a free promo code for the pro version.
Alex
I may pay a one time price for this app but monthly payment sounds too much for this.
You can also add a option to let user add few of his favorite songs and the app will randomly select a song on a random day and play it with low volume.
yes that is on my todo list, thanks for your comment
You might want to consider the idea that your app performs a "job" for a customer. Your app's job is to wake up the user, which it seems to be doing quite effectively. Once the customer is awake, their interaction with your app is done. No time for an in-app purchase.
I'd start with thinking about what additional jobs are you thinking you want the app to do for the customer. (NOT feature, but JOB). And, if you decide to add a new job to your app's responsibilities, you will need to think of a way to extend the time the customer interacts with your app, because right now it seems like interaction time would be a very, very short window.
That is a great view on a product. Currently I am limiting the configuration possibilities. Some people need a shorter or longer pre-run time for the light or want a different sound. For future I want to extend the morning show. Maybe partner with a meditation company.
The thing is, if I make the customer happy every day would he not be willing to pay more?
I'm not sure what features are already available in pro vs free since the descriptions for both apps are identical, but considering what other apps have available for free and the success you're currently enjoying I would say the model looks pretty good as is. Monthly subscription would definitely be too much, you could charge for having access to more sounds and more types of sounds (again, not sure if that's in the pro version already but definitely a good contender for an in app purchase). I would approach it from the viewpoint of what features are critical to make your app work, why do people download it, and what are extra nice-to-haves that wouldn't be a big deal if they didn't exist, the extras are what you can charge for.
