Need feedback for landing page

I'm not much of a designer, but I did cobble together a landing page for the SaaS I'm working on: Boilah. I know it needs work, but not sure what (or where to start...). Screenshots of the application will be added once I have something stable (soon...)

  • Is it clear what Boilah can help you with?
  • Do you have any tips or ideas how to improve the site?

Thanks!

    Hi @BoilahM,

Thank you for sharing your landing page and congrats on your launch!

I've taken the time to review your website and have shared my thoughts here: https://app.fraem.io/watch/a47baad5-e0b1-4967-8941-9e091f409de2

Let me know if helpful 🚀,

      Hi Francesco,
Definitely helpful! Thanks for going the extra mile and making a video!

I have (since the launch of the website a while back) chosen a UI lib for the application that will be 'integrated' into the website UI and think it's indeed a good idea to incorporate that into the website as well. That should make it more responsive than it currently is.

FYI, I can't seem be able to access fraem.io directly. But with a little digging I see you only just launched (ah, hence the video...). Well done! I guess your site will launch soon? Wish you all the best!

What UI library have you opted for?

fraem.io is still in its early days. We’ve been able to nail down a stable transcoding and recording pipeline. We’ll be releasing more features and opening up the platform over the coming weeks. You can sign up to our newsletter to stay up to date on our releases if you wish 😊

Great job on the hard work you have put into your product thus far.

There are two facets to the Boilah landing page that need to be addressed:

    1. Design
    2. Product positioning

    DESIGN 🎨

This is not comprehensive, but a few pointers to boost the design.

    • The fastest and best way to get a good design is to start with a great theme. Find a theme that works with your tech stack and comes with components and sections pre-built.
    • Yellow is a difficult color to pull off. That's one reason you don't see many yellow brands. Go for a simple color palette in the blue/green spectrum starting out.
    • Product screenshots are super important. Replace illustrations with screenshots.
    • Use a strong classic font. Inter or Public Sans would both be good options for you. (only use 1)

    PRODUCT POSITIONING 🎯

I *did not * understand what the product was until reading and clicking on other pages.

    • Make the Headline simple and straightforward:
      • Current: "Boilah + your expertise = High Quality Specifications"
      • Better: "Write high-quality Product Specs that ship"
    • Subtext. Add subtext below the Headline that further explains the product.
    • CTAs need to be consistent. Make it clear what the CTA buttons will do and why a user should want to click.
      • Current: "Keep me updated"
      • Better: "Get early access"
      • Later when the product is active change the text to a strong first step, like "Get started for free"
    • Add use cases on the main Landing Page, not hidden on the interior page. List each use case with a checkmark, like this:
      • ✅ Software dev
      • ✅ Gaming
      • ✅ Mobile apps
      • ✅ Product design

    BONUS: COMPARABLES ⚖️

See how these products position their offering.

Notion. Has similar aspects to what you are building. Documents, templatizing, teamwork, etc.
    ProductPlan. Competitor?
    ProdPad. Competitor?

(Sorry for the late reply - apparently I forgot to hit send and this browser tab has been sitting open for a month... 🤣. BTW in the meantime, the new website is nearly ready for re-launch...)

      Great points, @calebsylvest!

I was unsure about the yellow, indeed... Will probably fall back to something else...
Seems like it's going to be quite some work to fix this but it's a) what I was expecting and b) what happens when you ask for advice and then get great advice. :-)

Thanks for your time and effort!

Hi! I'd recommend scaling down to a single page website for now to help focus only on one page.

After that I think that you could clean up your hero section with a classic 2 column setup left side has elevator pitch and support text then right side has an image of the app showcasing value or emotional outcomes from the app if you can't showcase the app immediately

I think if you combine your current landing page with the usage scenarios you'll have a landing page that better explains what Boilah does.

My main issue is that after the hero section you're requiring people to go to another page to learn about when to use Boilah even though the home page "should" explain this.

I think taking the usage cases, scenarios, and outcomes then layering them with emotional benefits such as save time, save money, minimize risk would help the home page with the language

For the visuals I think you need to try to break up the white background with black text with a colored section. Having 1 or 2 colored sections would help build visual variety. Additionally switching to a more detailed graphics kit (like the 3D image at the bottom) may help add more "visual trust" to the page

You make excellent points! Thank you.

I'm working on the app at the moment and hope to have the UI somewhat stable enough for some screenshots. Hopefully that should bring across the message better that the 'generic' images in those three blocks. My aim was to indeed have it clear on the home-page and have more of a 'back-story' and more details on the Usage Scenarios page. But it's way too much text...

Glad you like the 3D image at the bottom... That's the only one I created myself... 😁

I'll get to working on the next version. Thanks again!
