Hello everyone, I'm currently developing a product, and I would really appreciate you to help me to make a right decision. I need your vision for my problem.
Well, I have a concept of my future app and code which is done by ~40% (main logic is almost finished) but I can't finish the last and the main thing because I don't know what business logic I should do for this feature, I have it in my head, but can't come up with an exact idea.
The concept: quick hackathons online with matchmaking. So this is an app where you can participate in quick hackathons just like you play videogames. There is a matchmaking algorithm that makes it more competitive, and it feels like CS:GO. People are just brought to one room divided by N teams which are of M people. They are given time to create a project together, works the same as a hackathon. And then, when the whole work is finished, they're being published in a global feed like a post which consist of teams and their projects. Everyone is able to vote for the best project in a particular match (which is published as a post) and the most voted team/project is a winner.
Back to the problem: I don't know how teams are going to work on a project. Like, is it better to have static projects in my database and there would be a random one for all teams in the room, or it would be better to make teams come up with the project ideas by themselves. But will they do that?
To make it clear, my mission is to make hackathons feel like an online game, and make them more accessible.
Again, I would really appreciate your consultation. Looking forward for your help!
Also, don't forget to stay home, take care of yourself, and drink tea. I wish you health in this difficult time.
@juniorHacker Hackathons usually have themes or problem statements and based on those themes the participants are required to come up with their own ideas.
These problem statements can vary depending upon the organizer or sponsor as @vepiu mentioned in point 2.
In my opinion it would be good if the participants come up with solutions on their own.
You could have a project management / milestone based module in the chat where the users can first submit the ideas, build them and as you mentioned in the end present the case to the live stream. Panel of experts could then judge based on the criteria and there can always be a users choice category for the project that gets the most votes
I am currently trying gitcoin.co. There are hackatons and they might have implemented what you are looking for. They are not focused on only hackatons though, but it could give an idea of what to implement.
