Need help in choosing a laptop

I'm a software developer doing mainly web applications with Javascript, React, etc., but I also have an interest in iOS development (React Native primarily, but planning to start using Swift after prototyping, however not in the pipeline right NOW).

In my spare time, I do enjoy some gaming, nothing fancy but you never know what will be released. I'm also a somewhat poor student, and so the cheaper the alternative the better, on the financial side of things.

I currently have a stationary PC for development at home, and gaming, as well as a 2013 Macbook pro, which is starting to become a bit too slow for my taste now. The issue I'm having is that while I really do enjoy developing on macOS, they are really expensive now, and I don't really need macOS in comparison to Linux, right now as I'm currently not releasing anything in App Store. But the need will probably change sooner or later.

I'm sure there are other people that are in this situation, and I would love your input on the matter.
