Need Quick Motivation To Do Something? Try this! 💪

Siddhita Upare @siddhitaupare

There are times when you feel low, right?

low

That's normal. Life can't be all sunny the whole time anyways.

Although there are many ways in which you can always get back up, they tend to have a short lived benefit. You do feel charged but after a while, you simply slouch back and go back to square one.

Wanna know some new ways to try it out?

Let me tell you about the ones that I've learnt from my experience with motivation -

1. Peer Pressure

Don't worry, it's not something negative! 🤣

Get your peers to force you into doing something. It's proven that if you have peer pressure, you are more likely to do something.

I tried doing it myself and now I can't get my family off my back from constant pressure about eating salads regularly haha!

2. Make yourself pay for it

What happens when you cross the red light on street? You get fined, heavily! Try doing the same thing with yourself.

In January, I had decided I won't buy anything online for 2 weeks if I lost my streak of completing all tasks on my Brutask list. And I actually did fail. So, I blocked out the shopping site on my pc and learnt the lesson the hard way :(

3. The Thrash Talk

Reverse Psychology, have you ever tried it? It does wonders haha. Next time you are not motivated, do some self trash talk.

I find that whenever I challenge myself, I tend to over accomplish by taking up the challenge.

What do you to motivate yourself? 🤔
Read books? Watch motivational videos?

Let's talk about new ways to get motivation!

I don't need motivation, I need ideas) a great idea is the best motivation for me.

    1. 1

Good for you @PavlMais! Any recommended source to get ideas? Maybe a website or blog?

  2. 2

Motivation is intrinsic. You can't get motivated externally. May be a little nudge, but that will wear off pretty soon.

Almost all of our life problems come from the lack of clarity, which manifest as the "fear of unknown" leading to "procrastination".

Once you know what you want, what you truly want, there is no excuse to not go after it. You are going to die after all. Whatever you gotta do, you gotta do quick.

Your brain might not be used to of taking action, so some self-audit is required and you need to be called on your bullshit.

    1. I don't consider "Peer pressure" as effective but "Peer watch" to call your BS out and point your patterns, would be helpful.

    2. More than penalising for negative actions, I believe in positive enforcement. Allow yourself the good things as a reward for completing tasks.

    3. This might be very subjective so I will refrain from commenting.

Don't try to source motivation. It's your life, and it's being consumed day by day.

Just figure out what you want and go after it. Again, you need clarity and its going to come by arriving at the right questions to ask. Otherwise why even get out of the bed in the morning?

Ugly truth: Most aren't in the mindset to really go after what they want and they shrug off & move on with seeking motivation while wasting time. This was proven when I tried to showIH an experiment I did and most weren't even motivated to ask a question or have a conversation, let alone take concrete steps to get clarity.

Thanks for making a detailed comment @ashfame! I loved reading your thoughts on every pointers above. I feel that even positive enforcement works just fine, it's a matter of preference honestly!

Also, thanks for sharing the showIH experiment! It was fun reading about it!

    # 2 is a great tip! Thanks for sharing!

When I look at your profile picture, it's hard for me to imagine you doing some nasty trash talking. 😅

I focussed heavily for a while on productivity and motivation. What I learned is that one thing that works now, doesn't always works in another situation. So at one point I got obsessed with finding the right fix for every situation.

But eventually I just accepted that work sometimes sucks. It's just a mindset thing of getting sh*t done.

That's so sweet of you to say, @maevaeverywhere 😊

Absolutely! Sometimes things are just not too good so we gotta learn how to adapt to the same!

I find 1. to be true for going to the gym, if I didn't go with my friend who loves the gym I would probably never go.

    1. 1

@Nikoisonfire Yes very true indeed. So, did you happen to join the gym regularly then?

  6. 1

Great points here and I use a combination of those too!
I've made a youtube simple playlist for motivation that I use, of which Jocko's voice and lines are my fav currently - makes me work on all bad days, down days easily

Thanks for sharing the youtube playlist @pravin_33! I'm sure everyone here will find it useful.

Well, I must say that the self thrash talk is something I tried today in the morning, & it has boosted me up quite well! 😅

Haha I'm so happy to hear that it helped you @rishabsharma!
