Hey everyone! I've recently found myself in a sticky situation and would like some advice.
I'm currently a PM at a startup and I enjoy my job. I am currently looking to create multiple streams and I'm not sure how to go about this. I'm not looking to make a career change, I plan to stay in this role until I feel like I'm done and want to start something of my own. I prefer having passive incomes for now, but I'm ready to put in more effort if the streams are something I enjoy working on. Does anyone have any input on what I can do - keeping in mind my experience is mostly management related? I'm not much of a designer/coder/any other field that freelancers pursue.
Thanks in advance!
For side income, you're looking for:
Quick to get started
Fairly reliable chance of working
Monetizes at small scale (i.e., charge people directly)
Low requirements for maintenance and support (including time, urgency, and drama)
(And arguably: not too emotionally draining since you'll already be giving your highest-energy hours to your job/family)
The "normal" answers fitting those constraints are:
None of them is perfect, but there's no such thing as "easy" money.
If I was personally really in a hurry to make a bit of hands-off income, I would essentially do niche SEO around udemy courses, trying to make a course in a weekend and continue until I had 10+. (And you can always somewhat scale it later by building an audience.)
This actually made a lot of sense as you broke it down simpler. I agree - there is no such thing as easy money. Anything requires effort and consistency. Thank you so much, I will sleep on this and make a decision!
What's the biggest challenge PMs face? How are they solving it? Is there a way that this problem can be solved better?
If you're a PM (a project manager instead of a product manager I assume) at a startup one of the biggest challenges is probably related to processes - setting them up, automating them and documenting them. Once in place, then you have to ensure people follow them, align incentives with them, etc. Does this sound like an interesting area you can explore?
I'm actually a mix of both, as it's an early stage, role definition isn't quite exact. I see where you're getting at, and I agree that is something I could explore. I'm a little unclear as to how I should go about making that a passive income, could you give some insight?
hi navsxoxo,
I am founder of top10theme. I have 11 year experience in industry. Best way to open new stream of income to be engage with community and give them some value. it will return back to you. are you agree with this point?
I totally agree. But I don't have a community, so how would you suggest I go about building one?
Be engage in every platform like social platform, YouTube, twitter, indiehacker and much more and build your name as brand in specific field. Someday you will have a large audience then you can sell course or any product related to your field to them. what you are doing here. that is the way to build your relationship so keep doing it.
This was really helpful, thank you!
