Negotiating deals for Indie Hackers

Hey There,

As we are all working and developing new projects, most of us need the same tools. Sometimes we need to pay for it and without any revenues that is often painful.

I am thinking about negotiating deals for our community. Groupon style but for developers. Like 1 deal proposed per week for all subscribers. And it is free to subscribe of course.

Would that be interesting?

Hey @evrardts, I think this is an awesome idea. You might even find that many companies already have discounted rates available to startups. So it could be as simple as collating a list of vendors with relevant links and promo codes. Speaking as a vendor in this scenario, we offer 50% off our website feedback tool for startups. We just keep it simple and let startups apply from this page https://www.userback.io/startups

Hey @evrardts This is an awesome idea. Here is another idea which can be an additional way of securing better prices.

Sometimes products makers are interested but when the time comes, they back out from signing up to a paid plan hence it becomes hard to negotiate. You could ask the vendor to provide better discounts as more people sign up/pay through a particular referral code. Let's say you use a product and have a referral code and 10 product makers have paid for the product using your referral code so now the vendor knows the 10 accounts were created through your referral code and provide better discounts for all 11 people from the following month onwards.

      Thanks for the feedback Nakkeeran!
This idea was more to approach saas vendors saying that we have x persons subscribed that are willing to use your product, can you give us a discount. That would really help me at least, I am paying way too much for the moment.
ut what you propose here is also a good approach and based on a result, so win win situation for both parties.
      Thanks again!

The idea sounds good. The operations part will be challenging since you will be creating a sort of marketplace. On one side you will need to bring on SAAS tools which are widely used or most necessary for the majority of your subscribers. And on the other side negotiate a good discount price with the SAAS vendors.

Reading more about Groupon's rise and failure will give you some ideas on how to proceed and the mistakes to avoid as well. But overall definitely worth a try and a good contribution to the startup scene.
