New Business Idea for Canada, But with a Modern Twist

Hey Indie Hackers,

I’ve been exploring a business idea that might actually work really well in the Canadian market — a modern local marketplace platform, kind of like Kijiji, but designed for how people buy and sell in 2025.

Here’s the thought: Canadians still love local trade — from second-hand furniture to cars to small service gigs. Kijiji has been the go-to for years, but it hasn’t really evolved much. People still face trust issues, spammy listings, and limited seller tools.

So what if we built something better — a verified, community-driven local marketplace that focuses on trust, simplicity, and user experience?

A few core ideas I’ve been playing with:

  • Verified local sellers (with “trusted” badges)

  • Built-in chat & meet-up scheduler

  • Local small business ads integrated smoothly

  • Monetization through featured listings, business promos, and premium accounts

Once it is scaled with a software tool like Best Classified Script, the business could even run semi-passively, just like how niche classifieds do in other countries.

It’s not about competing with giants — it’s about building a clean, localized ecosystem where buyers and sellers trust each other again.

I’m curious — if you were to launch this kind of marketplace in Canada, where would you start?
Would you go city-by-city (like starting with Toronto or Vancouver), or go niche-first (like cars, furniture, or services)?

Would love to hear your take — especially from anyone who’s built or validated something similar.
