New feature set for Facebook Groups
Facebook just announced a lot of new features for FB groups:
- New admin tools (they banned 6500+ groups lately)
- Organize content by topic
- Branded content for public groups
And new ways to engage with the community:
- Group chat
- A new type of collaborative post named Prompt
- Q&A
- New way to discover Public groups
They clearly want to fill the needs of online communities that pop everywhere.
What do you think, will you consider FB as your next community tool?

The upside of Facebook groups so far as I see them are that you can reach a lot more people who probably wouldn't sign up to a dedicated community (I don't want to create yet another account for yet another service...). You also give yourself a way to build lookalike audiences for advertising if that is your thing also... but I'd say it is easier to get people to join a FB group than some other community.
Sure, FB is huuuuge! Billions of users and the engagement isn't so bad (in the good groups), way better that Slack channel for instance…
One side they control and take out really great groups along with a ton of bad ones. Another side, they come out with new tools and options to build communities, even offer a community mentorship (for those using Facebook to grow their community).
It feels really risky to build a community with them.
I am encouraging every single person who is building up a community to avoid Facebook and start using tools like Circle or Discord for example. Facebook was just a big mistake, and in my opinion it is not the right place to build a community.
The only reason I still have a Facebook account is the Newsletter Creators Group by Josh Spector. I am pretty sure that more and more big facebook groups will make the move to more private solutions.
If that move doesn't convince them, they will for sure yep!
Facebook is bloated!
Nope. I don't want ads served to my community nor do I want it in the context of political content/friends and family updates.

I read somewhere that they merged (or will) FB messenger & Instagram. If they create bridges between the ecosystem the reach is gonna be crazy!
