New Landing Page (and review of Unstack)

Hi all,

Received great feedback on my last landing page posts and decided to do a major overhaul.

I started working on a rebrand of my project, Okapi, as well as a new user interface for my beta product last month and now that the new UI is in development, I decided it was worthy of a complete redesign of the site.

Check out the update here, would love your feedback:

Instead of my usual Webflow, I decided to try out Unstack and was pleasantly surprised. Here's a quick review:

All in all, I ended up building the site in about ~5 hours over a couple of nights. My product is simple but the concept can be complex so some of this time is just fiddling with my messaging as I get it out of my head or other docs and into the pages.

PROS

  • Super quick to drop in your typical sections and stylize to fit your brand. Seriously a full page in minutes if you're dropping in content quickly.
  • Integrations with icons and unsplash made some filler spots really nice. So much better than searching the web and getting assets exported for development
  • Setting up with the domain and SSL was easy
  • CMS feels a little easier to manage than Webflow; more straight forward since it's solely focused on "blogs"
  • Some other features like A/B testing and landing pages I'm excited to try out

CONS

  • Lack of reusable components was a tough one here. Other than the footer and header, each component is "unique" per page. So at the bottom of every page I have a CTA section that I had to recreate a few times manually. Their support team said they're working on it as we speak so that's promising
  • Some of the prebuilt components could use a little love; you can tell they have "legacy" components that are pretty dated like their forms styling and pricing component. Things like Pricing components aren't a big deal; it was pretty quick to just use their design to mimic the style I want.
  • Adding SSL is where the cost comes in. Adding the domain is free but without SSL, not much you can really do here. Overall, about the same as I would be paying for Webflow so not a huge deal.
  • You'll run into random things that are odd; background images seem to scale oddly sometimes, center aligning checkmark bullets is a disaster, and just little things here and there. These are definitely the times you miss something like Webflow even for simple layouts.

Overall pretty impressed and will be using for a lot of sites moving forward. If you're interested in trying Unstack, this is my affiliate link: https://www.unstack.com/?via=nick

Cheers!

@oneten thanks for sharing this experience. I think your feedback is super thoughtful and on point. We are working really hard to close the gaps on the legacy components (we have a new system in the works), add many new pre-built components, and clean up those little quirks. We're shipping every week, so stay tuned! - Grant
