New Landing Page for Takl
As the Director of Engineering for a fast-growing "unicorn" start-up, I had the privilege of launching a new landing page today.
We laid off ~20 developers and over 100 in support. This was truly the best team I've ever had the honor of working with! F#$% COVID-19
It has been crazy for the last few days, as you can probably imagine.
When COVID-19 started to spread in the US we knew that it would have an impact on our business. And as predicted, over the last few weeks we've seen a dramatic decline in the number of appointments ordered through our app.
We had tens of thousands of providers throughout the country. Any of which could contract the disease or pass it to a customer. This could not only cause legal troubles, but it could also potentially cost someone their life. We did not want to responsible for that, so we suspended operations.
Shortly after we suspended our services, there was a dramatic increase in the infection rate in our largest markets. Based on that alone, I think we made the right decision. No matter how bad it hurt.
Over the last few days, I've done what I can to help our developers land new jobs. I don't think any of them will be unemployed for long. As for me, I'm going to take my time and work on a side project that has been brewing since I started my first company several years ago. I loved Takl but I think I loved being an indie hacker even more.
