New to I.H, any advice on what to follow and best things to do as a member?

I’m looking to get advice on best follows in I.H, networking, growing personally and professionally. I moved to Fishers, IN summer of 2019 and would love to meetup with any other creatives in my area :)) thanks everyone!!

    Welcome and thanks for joining.

@harrydry has a lot of great marketing stuff. @goldenkahdesign is a great designer/creative. And @helengriffinjr is also great with growth/marketing/focus. @indieorbust wrote Lean B2B, which I found really valuable. And of course @arvidkahl is producing a huge amount of great information.

It appears, to me, the most successful way to network and build a community here is to just be genuine and engage with people. You appear to already be doing that. The people who join and either spam the community or demand "free work in exchange for equity in the biggest idea ever" find the community doesn't engage with them. Long story short, I'd stay away from the Looking To Partner Up area...

Hey Simon! You are awesome- thank you for taking the time to send me some great tips and people to follow. I really appreciate it. I am trying to be proactive and jumping right on board. There is a lot going on it seems like and needed a little guidance lol. I started following you and look forward to building communication between us. Enjoy your weekend!!

Cheers Mark, and welcome Nancy (@expressingDESIGN) :)

There's a pretty nice Start Here page with some good resources.

And perhaps have a listen to some quick chat Indie Hacker Podcast episodes. They're interviews with people from the forum, and I always find them fun :)

what @Lakebed_io says...! you're doing a great job engaging and asking questions... this is pretty much all you have to do in the beginning! then, when you're ready, i'm sure there's a ton we can learn from you!

    1. 1

That's the part I missed, looking forward to learning from you as well.

Hey Nancy! Welcome, well I recently joined IH as well, with the same doubts as you. Having found no real answer, a while into being natural at talking to others and indulging, I've actually grown into it. How it happened, when it happened, I don't know. See if you find a post that intrigues your interest, and indulge as you would normally, no hard and fast rules. Welcome.

Hi Abu! Thank you for your kind and warm welcome. It’s very nice to find a group of creatives that are going through the same phases as you or can offer advice. So far I’m enjoying I.H very much. Thanks again and be well!!

    Welcome to the IH community!

Not sure I have any advice beyond what others have already said. But, I did want to mention that I live in Indiana and well! Not exactly in the Fishers area though.

Hi Noah! I would love to meet sometime :))

Signing up for email newsletters is a cheap way to stay up to date in a bunch of areas. For example https://web-design-weekly.com/ is nice for, surprise surprise, web design.

Hi Sasha!! Thank you for the great feedback and link, so very helpful, cheers!!

One last recommendation I will give is https://refactoringui.com/. It's my go-to recommendation for getting into web design. It's an aggressively practical book. Kind of pricey though

Thanks you so much, I love your kindness :)) be well!!
