New website!! Looking for feedback!

I have finally updated the Nap O'Clock website!

http://www.napoclock.com

I would really appreciate if anyone reading this can take five minutes to go and check the updated Nap O'Clock website and give me frank and honest feedback!
This site is mainly a means to find the app from the various app stores, but want to make it look slick and give basic information to users on the suite of products.

I'm not your target audience, so I'll just chime in on the site's design.

    • images are skewed, try to respect the original proportions the image comes with, or crop accordingly
    • hero carousel takes up too much space, and doesn't really give me a good idea of what you are providing
    • just by looking at the hero, it seems that you are giving me an app, but I don't know what it does, why not move your app mockups right to the top?
    • looking at the rest of the sections, all the mockups are of stock Apple products, why not take screenshots
    • I thought that perhaps you were pre-launch, but your app is already on the App Store (congrats!), so you already have all the promo materials you need to plaster on your landing page
    • hovering over you headings gives it an underline, which makes it look like a spelling mistake occurred

I think in general, you have the right idea with the baby imagery but you might want to intersperse it across the site instead of just clumped up at the top. Move up your app mockups right to the top and perhaps lose the carousel, your hero should give the viewer an immediate understanding of what your app does, and the value it provides.

Good luck with Nap 'O Clock!

That’s great feedback, thanks a lot! the hero imagery is all stock at this point. I am teeing you some time for proper action shots with the apps being used by some mothers I know, just need a decent photographer etc., Will do the app mock ups etc., as a quick win and customer testimonials. Maybe even change the colours a bit

      Thanks again

You may not even need a decent photographer 😅

Yeah I’ve gone through a few of these sites but there’s nothing there that has a woman holding a baby with an Apple Watch or sitting next to an Alexa device etc., lol. I’m also on a very shoestring budget. I’ll use some of the free sites to put in the screenshots on a standard iPhone template and photos of people using the product the way I want it :)

    Hi,

There's a couple of people talking about the visual aspect, so I'll just stick to the UX / Information architecture. And there's actually quite a lot of work to be done, so I'll stick just to the splash screen.

(I was using MacBook Pro 11" with chrome to view your site)

When I (or any other visitor) arrive at your site, I'm subconsciously asking: "Will this get my job done?". Every element of the splash screen content needs to reflect that.

    I. When your site loads up, my attention is immediately grabbed by the baby, which is good, because there's something that grabs my attention and makes me less likely to bounce, even though it doesn't explain much about your product.

II. I then quickly check the logo on the top right (edit: left), which is a habitual reflex and most people will do that, especially since your logo is huge and red, but I still don't get much info about your product or business, because the logo doesn't give many hints.
This means I've already spent 2 imaginary units of energy/focus and didn't get much info in return. I'm more likely to bounce at this point.

(To mitigate this I'd either add a short 3-4 word tagline next to the logo to give the visitor at least a brief bit of info about your business, or I'd make the logo less prominent, so it doesn't draw that much attention)

III. Third I look at the main title in the middle of the screen, which says "Be free". Now what the hell does that mean, I have no idea. :D I guarantee that large number of people will bounce at this point.

You need to utilise the title to talk about your value proposition. The visitor sees the title and creates a mental model (expectation) about your product in a split second, but there's nothing they can figure out from "be free".

For example what you use as a sub-title ("World's first and best baby soothing app for your Apple Watch.") is still far from ideal, but 100x better if used as the title. If you scrap the marketing BS ("world's first and best"), you already have a decent title: ("Baby soothing app for your apple watch") It doesn't take too much effort to figure out that your product is about putting babies to sleep with the involvement of an app. Which is much better mental model than what I can form from "Be free".

IV. Scrap the side-scrolling presentation This is making it even harder to understand what your site is about, since it just moves to the next slide when I am in the middle of reading your sub-titles.
I understand that you are trying to communicate your different product solutions, but this is not the right spot. Move this further down the page, ideally to a more specific section which talks about various platforms that you support.

    V. Utilise a CTA
"Read more" or "Learn more" belong among the best CTAs for such splash screens, since they involve very little commitment from the user (It's not saying "BUY NOW" / "SUBSCRIBE" etc.). They will gently nudge the user towards learning more about your product by scrolling down the site. And if you manage to fulfil the visitors expectations by bringing them further down the page to a section with more info, they will remember that clicking CTA on your site actually provides them with value and will be more likely to click e.g. a "Download now" CTA further down the site.

EDIT: LOL look at that, the CTA is actually there, but the whole bottom middle section is so crowded and noisy that I didn't even notice that!

Anyways, it seems like a promising product. I wish you good luck! Keep us posted on your progress! :)

That’s a great response, thanks very much! I am sure you can tell that I’m a dev first, marketer and salesperson second :) lots of great stuff to digest, again thanks heaps for your input!

    Hi Paul,

Definitely agree with what the other have said about the red, though my favorite color, and it can look great in some cases but its not really appropriate here IMO.

I have a 6 month old and so I do use apps for white-noise and nap tracking. But if for example I or my wife need to start a timer in the middle of the night or in a darkened room it may be hard to be discreet.

    • No SSL certificate. See if your host supports "Let's Encrypt" which would be free for you and helps build user trust (helps with SEO too.)
    • Images do skew but only when shrinking the page / mobile viewing. (because you have the width responsive but not the height)
    • "Above the fold" there are three logos with a screen width of 1200px or more.
    • I think listing the features / benefits would be a better use of space instead of dedicated sections for what are just links to different app stores.

I know you requested feedback for the website, but when testing for mobile it linked to the app store, so I checked that out too and the screenshots don't really portray the app in its best "light." It seems like you're proud of the logo you have (it is a nice design) but i don't think you need a screenshot for the splash screen. Also should probably remove the ads from the screenshots.

Cheers and congrats on the launch :)

Stick with the logo, it's very neat. However, the site needs major reworks, this looks like it's was designed back in 2010. I'm open to collab and hit you up with a fresh design.

If the red logo is too much, I recommend a blue or a gradient blue color. That's more associated with calm and sleep.

    1. 1

Yeah I don’t mind the logo, but the colour has always been a love/hate relationship. Red isn’t a calming colour, however, almost every single other app in this market uses the same iconography and colour... I figured the red would make it pop in what is a pretty crowded market.

Btw the site is pretty old lol it’s a fairly big standard bootstrap site but at this I’m just looking for it to be a bit of a brochure site to give people information and lead them to the appropriate App Store

    Very clean! Nice work.

Not sure about the red logo - red generally means risk, fire, passion, danger (not colours for this product IMO)

    1. 1

Thanks for the feedback, yeah it’s been a struggle with that logo for a while. Might change it to a silver logo instead

This is a really good idea! I think getting some testimonials on the page would really help sell it! Maybe talk to a few potential customers and have them try it?

Great idea, will definitely put that up as a quick win :)
