Newsletter Content Capture

How are people capturing/saving content for their newsletters? This would be for the newsletters that are sharing out other links on topics that they find interesting or are related to their own content.

Currently, I'm just bookmarking or leaving tabs open until it's send time. I feel like there has to be an automated or more curated way to do this that I haven't found yet. Any insight would be great!

I use Trello and Google Sheets to organise my content. In Trello I have a board just for the newsletter content collection. As my newsletter is spilt into 4 particular sections, I have a list for each section. Then I use the Trello Chrome extension to add the link on to the right list.

Then when I come to put the newsletter together I use Google Sheet (from a template I reuse each new edition), then I copy and paste the content I need into the spreadsheet.

Then (phew), I copy and paste the content into Squarespace when I make the newsletter first as a blog post (so the email kinda lives on).

As all my content is evergreen I end up with a library of links to share and browse through when I'm putting the email together.

    Hope that helps.

I just use a combination of Bear and Google sheets.

Every Monday I make a google sheet titled "Issue #0XX" and I categories the sheet with what i want to add in that weeks issue. It works out great because I have a database of everything Ive ever featured in every issue of my newsletter.

I showcase a lot of products, so I have a lot of data such as

    • Founder(s) emails and twitter hadles
    • Links to landing pages
    • Bio descriptions for all my features

I cant stand bookmarking, it just clutters my browesr, so i save links in Bear, and the final ideas go in the sheet.

My newsletter is hosted at Revue, so my publishing process involves using Revue's Chrome extension to save links.

I have heard of Revue, but haven't looked closely at it until now. This seems like it would be the best workflow for me as of right now.

I don't yet have a lot of content of my own to share, so I'm only sending every 2 weeks (to give me time to write a new blog post hopefully) and including other things from around the web that are on target/brand with my consulting business (https://fractionconsulting.co). I'm hoping the mixed content is appealing to folks.

I use the Dynalist clipper to capture the links I want to feature on This Week's Worth and send them to the next issue's Dynalist page. There I can expand each link, as they are a bullets, and write about each link. When preparing the newsletter it's a matter of copy pasting.

I made my custom newsreader and then have a hidden address to curate content for specific newsletters (we run several).

The newsreader outputs clean HTML in a way we just need simply to copy-paste an element we need to include in the newsletters.

If you are logged off, clicking an item will redirect you to the source. If you are logged in it displays the entire article inside the newsreader without any ads or distractions.

We do it this way because we also import content protected behind paywalls. Having it public would be probably illegal or at least hurt the publisher. And being publishers ourselves we understand the value of their content and page-views.

Back in the day, I used to hookup Feedly tags with Zapier and gDocs. But I like better running our stack which we control and personalize.

If one day I've time I will integrate our news reader with Feedly's API and finally gDocs.

I am fairly low tech but here is my process. I also publish my newsletter issues on a WordPress blog so I start a blog post and add to it keeping in draft status. When I am happy with it I copy it into iContact and send it and then publish the blog post. I also tweet quotes for entrepreneurs and collect them in a blog post that I publish at the end of each month.

I usually save my content on Airtable, text + links + social media.

Every 2 weeks I will cosolidate info and put it into newsletter format. You can find out more here. And would be awesome to hear your feedback
