Newsletter domain extension help

I am currently very confused regarding choosing a domain name for my newsletter. It used to be newsletter.Myname. I am now switching to a dedicated domain with the newsletter name.

Which is better .net .io or adding “the” and getting .com.

Or maybe add the word newsletter and get the .com

I do have a podcast with the same name of the newsletter

Kindly advice

Extension
  1. .net
  2. Add “The” and extension .com
  3. .io
  4. Add “Newsletter” and extension .com

For people who voted for the add newsletter word. I am sorry I forgot to tell you that I do have a podcast with the same name

    Hi @ashoukry!

I vote for .io domain, but I think that TLDs and domain names are not that important anymore. Your content or a product matters much more.

I agree with content. My newsletter is already working and gaining and losing dollar along the way. I was thinking to improve the branding and make use of the newsletter keywords through seo

I will not chose .newsletter for the opportunity to feature my podcast with the same name.

    So now between
    io
    Add the and .com
    Or maybe

    .cc

Keep it simple and go with thelifeandwork.com. Down the road you may go beyond a newsletter so it's better not to go with that.

P.S. I agree that .io isn't quite relevant for what you're doing.

Ok, let me reveal the names to put things into perspective.

My original domain is like my name newsletter.shoukry.org and the newsletter used to be A. I. Shoukry Newsletter

I decided to focus on a more specific audience and niche and rebranded my newsletter to be, life & work by A. I. Shoukry. I continued to use the same subdomain.

Again I decided to be more specific so I thought to get a domain with "life and work" in it.

I found "thelifeandwork.com" and bought it for cheap. However, I still didn't market it yet. Without "the" is very expensive.

I found .net and .io also available.

My podcast is hosted on anchor.fm/lifeandwork

I can use the domain and put the newsletter and podcast info on it.

So I guess lifeandworknewsletter.com will be too long.

Shoukry, how expensive is lifeandwork.com? Or lifeandwork.io? I ask because I'm voting for turning it into an LP that directs to both your newsletter and podcast.

      1. 1

.io I think 50$ and lifeandwork.com the seller is asking for a a high 4 figure

    Hey, @ashoukry!

I voted for add "newsletter" and extension .com for a few reasons:

    • Unless it's a high-tech company, no need to go .io
    • Having "newsletter" right in your domain will be good for SEO
    • When people are finding your domain, they'll know they found you based on the domain and seeing newsletter there

So if search is important for you (or will be), I'd go with this.

BUT, if the domain matching your podcast name is more important, that's definitely a factor.

Any reason you're not just launching the newsletter on the same domain as your podcast? If they can work together and provide value for the same audience, it usually. makes sense to conglomerate power on a single domain, drive all your traffic/audience there and improve your domain authority faster. Plus, your audience can get everything from one place and you can use the domain you're already using. Seems easier if this is an option.

If both the podcast and newsletter are going on one domain, I'd actually not use "newsletter" in the domain. Keep it more general to encompass both!

We use wpmrr.com and kept the domain general so it could eventually host our virtual summit, podcast and community (coming soon...)

I was surprised to see people for now in votes prefer the .io over adding "the" .com

          Thelifeandwork.com is now against lifeandwork.io

          .com renewal is cheaper:)
