Newsletter service for developers

I'm looking for a super barebones email service where I can

  • store user emails via rest API calls from my frontend (no iframes or weird stuff like this)
  • send out automatic confirmation emails when they subscribe
  • send emails to all of them
  • have some basic anti spam stuff set up

I tried sendgrid and mailchimp but they're all pretty annoying for developers to set up. I recently discovered plausible.io which you can throw in to your site and it "just works" without any bs.
Is there anything like this but for email? :D

You could try EmailOctopus (disclaimer: I work there!)

Our embedded forms would allow you to store user emails via rest API calls. We have an API, but don't allow users to use it from front end code - it's a bit of a security no-no.

You can send out automated welcome emails, send one-off campaigns to the whole list, and we're UK-based so fully GDPR compliant.

Best of all, we're free for up to 2,500 subscribers :-)

I have never used it but I was interested to know what do you not like about sendgrid?
