Has anyone thought about improving on the dating app space? I'm trying to evaluate whether or not a niche/community based dating app would be a good idea? I'm most drawn to people that have similar interests/goals as me, but I'm struggling to find/reach out to those people because dating platforms are more visual and mainstream. I was thinking about something like "reddit for dating", where the app could be forum based and you could comment with/interact with people per their interests and posts, and finally reach out to them if you want to keep talking to them. For example, if I'm interested in things such as the FIRE movement, veganism, cryptocurrency and etc, I could go through those posts and find someone interesting through their comments and eventually their profile... Only potential issues are 1) maintaining comments/community once a person has found their "match" or is in a relationship 2) geographic distance - people may not want to "date" with people far away. I would love to hear everyone's thoughts or if there is a similar service that already exists....
1,000s of versions for dating services have been tried and still people develop more.
The older ones were deeper into info matching.
But I guess if married at first sight and it's versions found anything is that we know about 0 at how to really truly match couples.
Was just going over that mental practice again and thinking if I had tried an attempt at a dating service... I'd probably use a friend graph of sorts to level 3 let's say, so friends of my friends or possibly another level deep, as honestly most of the couple's I know have either somehow met like that or had connection like that as there is a lot of things happening about the people you really consider friends.. they tell many thing about you... They are compatible to you in things that are important to you mentally, socially, interests, background...
Surely that doesn't cover all cases.
And it might be winner biased.
...
But it does seem that so far the only thing that works is just giving more matches and letting people figure it out.
A couple of weeks a go there was a post about someone with blind voice matching of sorts
I see, thanks for the tips. I'm going to try to explore this more, maybe something good will come out of it! :D
I think a values-based dating app would be cool, like a selection process like keyvalues but for dating.
I think the way the founder did it was talk to 100 software engineers and figure out what they're looking for in a job and then match that up with companies who have to pick the top 8 values for their company. This also helps branding and alignment, which is a problem that startups have in hiring. https://neilpatel.com/blog/what-branding-really-means/.
This would be great b/c it would force people to think about their values and what's important to them BEFORE trying to meet ppl, which will save a lot of time.
Yeah, I agree. Thanks for the feedback!
Subtle Asian Dating is the distribution channel for this.
Hahah yes, I agree, there's a lot of "subtle asian" pages that I'll probably end up using for any of my launches.
Or have like a "See More at __" and have all the auction posts on the blog section of your landing page so traffic will route to your site.
Ohhh I have a great marketing idea, auction ppl off and at the very bottom of the post, have a "content provided by __" with a clickable link to your landing page. A lot of ppl want to be auctioned off but they don't have friends to do it for them.
I own a small dating app focused on expats and SEA.
There is a reason why popular dating apps like Tinder have very limited filtering choices. Too much restriction results in less matches overall and people need matches. There just aren't many people that like FIRE, Veganism, or crypto AND are single AND are in your area AND are in your target age range AND in your target gender preference AND are currently active on an app.
There are a lot of hyper focused niche dating apps out there (christianmingle, etc.) but its really hard to get a critical mass of users in a particular area with those types of apps.
I think the world is becoming a more lonely place and many/most men who are not outgoing really struggle to find a partner and so they are willing to have long distance relationships for the emotional experience at least. There are successful niche dating apps, but they are still hard to get off the ground.

Thanks for you advice! I'm going to potentially try to build an MVP out, or if I decide not too, I may just focus on dating app/site aggregation. So instead of hosting the conversation/matches myself I could aggregate/create a marketplace of other dating apps that already tend to that need.
To me, it seems like a great idea!
All the major dating apps are currently shifting towards meaningful conversations and quality matching, so might be a good idea to explore this space.
Another issue with niche dating apps might be that a person with very niche interests runs out of matches pretty soon, so you'll need an algorithm providing "more of the same" by some other criteria
Yes, thank you for your advice! I'm planning to do sub categories within categories, for example tech -> cryptocurrency to give people more options. Thanks!
