Following up on my last post about invisible churn from Nigeria here's harder evidence for anyone skeptical this is a real, structural issue and not just anecdotal:
Major Nigerian banks (GTBank, Access, Zenith, UBA, Ecobank) restricted or suspended international card transactions starting 2023, driven by dollar shortages
Bank transfer overtook cards as Nigeria's top online payment method that same year
Even large global platforms aren't immune there are open, unresolved threads on Spotify's own support forum from Nigerian users whose card renewals keep failing
So if you're running a card-first checkout and have any Nigerian users on a subscription, there's a real structural reason renewals might be failing silently not a fraud issue, not a demand issue, a banking policy issue.
Curious if anyone's seen this in their own churn data, or found a workaround already.
