I've tried pretty much every calorie tracking app out there. MyFitnessPal, Healthify Me, Journable, Cronometer, went through all of them at some point. And everytime I'd open one of these apps and search for "roti" or "dal tadka" the results were either completely wrong, way off on the calories or just not there at all. Like how does an app that's supposed to help you lose weight not know what roti is? That's just the most basic thing for someone eating Indian food everyday.
So I'd either log something random that didn't match what I actually ate or I'd just give up and close the app. And I think that's what most Indian users do honestly. You try it for a few days, the numbers feel off, you don't trust it and then you stop.
That's exactly why I built Caliq. I was tired of apps that were clearly built for someone eating sandwiches and salads, not dal chawal and sabzi roti. Caliq is built from the ground up for Indian users, with an actual Indian food database so when you type roti or dal it knows what you mean and gives you numbers you can actually trust. The logging is also just way faster, you type your meal like you'd tell someone and thats it. No searching, no dropdown hell.
I built the app I wish I had when I was trying to track my own calories.
