Hello,
I’m thinking of using Bubble to build a product. But I’ve seen some comments to suggest Bubble is only good for MVP and not for building a final product. I’m not sure why people say this as my understanding is the tool provides a scalable solution.
I would be very interested in hearing about other peoples experiences in the above. Has anyone built a successful product purely with Bubble? Please share details
Thanks
There are 2 problems by building something of no code builder like Bubble
Flexibility - Most of the no-code builder have limited set of modules which you can use to build your app. Now imagine you have 1000 paying customer and 100 of them wanted a specific feature which is not possible through Bubble. Are you okay with losing this 100 paying customer? Now imagine the works and complexity you have to face while moving everything to your own server in future.
Ownership - No matter how helpful is Bubble or other similar tools, at the end of the day they own your product. With one click you will be gone if you commited something wrong as per their policy.
This why is most people prefer WordPress instead of Blogspot even though Blogspot is owned by bigger company like Google and had Ranking benefits in past.
Because for simple policy violations Google simply used to deletes someone's hard work of 4-5 years.
we can safely add Performance optimization, Migrations, all things associated with scaling up...
per #2 are you sure they own your product? after all you pay for the service; are you saying it is more than platform-lock-in issue?
Interesting replies. Main concern seems to be ownership. Do you mean ownership or dependency? Commit something wrong? Not sure exactly what you mean here. I can understand people having a concern about the dependency on the tool, but that would apply to any solution you would use. For example, Cloud services such as AWS, Azure or other tools like Webflow.
There will always be a trade off and what you gain is ability to build something fast once you get to grips with the tool.
Not sure about the flexibility. I can only comment on Bubble here but I suspect other tools also provide similar Plugin support which seems quite common these days. I think the common widgets provide support for most use cases. And with plug-ins for things like API tool you can cover most things. However, the map widget that comes with it seems to be tied to google.
Nobody so far has really commented on what they have built and mentioned anything on scaling with users. Would be good to hear about examples that have succeeded with Bubble and what issues they faced if any. Would be great if someone can comment on this
Thanks
From my point of view it is like a balance, in which (for me at least) a no-code tool like Bubble actually enables me to get it done. Developing from scratch (full-stack) initially would take me too long to finish, and with the right product/customer it would be well worth investing in a scratch built app at a later stage.
