Nobody usually asks this question during the interview.

BUT...you must.

Question
Why the company is hiring currently?

Why this question is important?
Usually, the position is vacant because someone got fired or promoted, or they are expanding their business.

Then ask open-ended follow-up questions.
Why did we fire? Why we promoted? What is the company's vision?

How does it help?
Fired > mistakes that you don't want to repeat.
Promoted > what it takes to get promoted in the company.
Expansion > company's goal and vision.

How to identify the answer?
Ask interviewer. You won't get the exact answer,
but you will get a little bit of hint.
