Not a big fan of the new “pinned” posts.

new pinned section on IH

Maybe its just me?

Idk, I thought that before when these pinned posts had their own seperate section at the top.

This way, users could take a look at those posts, and then take a look at the daily posts without other distractions.

Having those pinned posts in the daily section almost takes away the visibility of the regular daily posts.

Does anyone else here share these feelings?

The old "top stories" section had lots of issues: It took up too much vertical space and pushed the forum down. It was confusingly redundant with the "Popular" forum tab. It wasn't clear where those posts came from, or how they got into that section. And lots of people would simply stop reading and never look at the forum below.

This new approach is an attempt to get more people reading the forum, to provide examples that encourage people to make better posts, and to simplify the design of the homepage a bit. I don't look at it as detracting from the forum, because those posts are literally part of the forum.

Ok, got it now. That makes much more sense now that I think about it.

True true! Just like @mattkandler said:

It's also a nice reminder that the "algorithm" involves some hand-picking.

Thanks for the response @csallen. I guess it can just take some getting used to.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I actually like this better than the old way with some highlighted posts in a separate window above the regular ones. It's also a nice reminder that the "algorithm" involves some hand-picking.

Time will tell, but I'm into it for now.

I see what you mean. It can be quite motivating in certain stances.

I didn't realize they were pinned, they have bigger font sizes on desktop so I needed to check if I zoomed in mistakenly. :)

I think it's better than the older version for the UX sake, also those pinned posts is a reason for people to stick around post often keep the "quality" up. That seems like an encouragement of what they vision about how indiehackers' feed should look like.

I see what you mean here. Still bugs me, but I do get your point.

        Yeah, not a fan either.

Even Apple listen to their users/customers and go 3 years in time and bring magsafe back. So 🤞

And they added a notch! Just what I always wanted! (said no one ever).

But other than that, the new macbook pros look pretty amazing.

Hahaha same feels here, same feels here

Yeah, they are great. I'm gonna need to shake my piggy bank, tho.

Pinning stories at the top is fine for me, but that bigger font size... 🤢🤮

Hey, one of your posts just got pinned! Does that change your mind at all? 😉

Hmm, to be honest not really.

It’s like Producthunt. If I’m trying to get #1, I’ll obviously be annoyed of the top because I want my chance to shine.

Eventually, when I do get #1, I’ll of course, but when the ride of fun is over, it’s back to where it all started.

Completely agree and I removed it with my own custom CSS
