November 2018: Freelancer? Seeking Freelancer?

Welcome to the November 2018 freelancer / seeking freelancer thread.

For those not familiar, this is patterned after a long-running thread on Hacker News. Think of it like a little classified ads section. It looks like this: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=16282820

Tips for posting:

✔️ Lead with SEEKING WORK or SEEKING FREELANCER.
✔️ Let's just assume that everyone is okay with remote work, unless specified otherwise.
✔️ Make sure you have up to date contact information in your post or your IH profile.
✔️ I've never been given too much information about a job or freelancer up front. It's never happened!
✔️ If you successfully find work/hire someone through this thread, post and let us know!

FREELANCERS... I have a question! (Sorry Phil if this isn't the place.)

I am looking to bring on a AngularJS/NodeJS developer for about 10-20 hrs a month to handle some small tasks. I am wondering if the lower hours offered means I have to give more or less per hour...

    Opinions?

    1. 1

Usually you need to pay more since every project (and thus communication) is an overhead. If it's long term work you might get the "normal" hourly fee.

    2. 1

When I've done contract/freelance work, I've charged less because I was only willing to work 10 hours in a busy month :) So you might be able to find someone like that.

On the other hand, people who prefer long-term and sustainable work will likely charge more because it doesn't fit into their goals.

    3. 1

I think it depends on whether you are looking for a long term arrangement and whether it is an ongoing project or different projects.
It also would depend on how time critical the changes you ask for are.

For adding features/modifications to an existing code a lot of time goes into understanding existing code. If you have an ongoing arrangement and freelancer is familiar with your project you can expect faster turnaround and lower cost.

On other hand if you bring a new person to project he would have to spend lot of time reading code with no or little output to show for.

    4. 1

I'm a vue+Laravel developer and as far as I know usually the hourly rate is static and independent of the total number of hours.

      1. 2

Definitely not the case for me if I do freelance/consulting work. Want me to work for 1 hour? You probably have to pay me for a full day - after all that's a day I can't sell to anyone else anymore.

Want me to work for a week? That'll be more like 4x my daily rate.

Longer than a month? Probably more like 3x my weekly rate.
