NYC Founders

👋 Hi New Yorkers (and people who live nearby, like myself)!

Would love to meet and talk to fellow indiehackers based in NYC.

What are you working on right now?

  1. 4

Hey Rasul, good to see you at the meetup the other day, and good to see you on here.

For everyone else, I'm co-founder of a micro-SaaS that is used by small businesses. Happy to chat about marketing and growth!

    1. 2

Hey Jonathan, great to see you here too. Looking forward to the next meetup. Next time will need to consider making it a little longer officially.

Guys, you should check out goreminders.com, company @zacks started with his friend. It is a good example of successful, bootstrapped company.

Channing Allen here, one of the Indie Hackers co-founders. 👋

I typically work out of my home office in Brooklyn but I also spend a couple days a week at a WeWork office in Manhattan.

Happy to see all the meetups lately! I'll keep my eye out for them and attend whenever I have some bandwidth.

Hey! Can you talk to me more about the wework?

      • are other people distracting?
      • can you rent your own desk?
      • how much is it?
      • are people there willing to talk?

Hey Guys - Niraj here. I am in NJ and I am building pandaflow.io
Would love to meetup in NJ or in NYC.

    1. 3

Nice to meet you Niraj. You should checkout this meetup (https://www.meetup.com/Business-Strategy-Brainstorming-Group/). We meet more or less regularly.

      1. 2

        Thanks - joined.

    👋Williamsburg-based app developer here

I also work on web development for clients so always down to chat about React/Node and all that. Some design as well and always a growing amount of marketing...

    How about you @rasulkireev?

    1. 2

      @mattkandler

Awesome. Actually HappyFeed partly inspired my project, thank you for your work!

I live in Newark, NJ and work as Data Analyst at Guy Carpenter. At the same time, working on my first SaaS product kushim.io.

Actually I would love to get into consulting myself, so would love to chat about that. I specialize on the backend with Python Django.

      1. 2

Oh really? That's so cool to hear 😄

From a glance at kushim.io, it looks like we are sort of competitors now - I'm curious to hear how you are planning to differentiate in what's becoming a very crowded space.

        1. 3

😂 It is to a degree, you are absolutely right.

I am working my butt of to add a CRM like feature, which would allow me to consider V1 fully built.

It would be hard to differentiate against other products, I certainly agree. I started it for myself and will aim to keep it simple and minimal, which could be an advantage for some people. Otherwise it has no major differentiations.

If there is any success within a month of introducing CRM feature, I will consider adding a habit tracking feature.

Currently don't have any customers and actually didn't talk to many people yet, which is big No No for Indiehackers. I guess that is fear of failure talking in me.

          1. 1

The CRM feature sounds pretty interesting, I've had some ideas in that direction too but haven't built too much.

I completely agree that simple is the way to go. You can waste a lot of time chasing new features but one simple thing that works seems best to me.

Would love a view on this from a developer:

I want to build a chrome extension on top of the Google Translate API to enable everyone to write and read in their native language but keep a native and professional level of English while engaging online.

The product would like Grammarly be able to identify text input fields then open a translation box similar to https://translate.google.com/, where it will convert the native language into plain and well-written English then input that into the text input field. Likewise, a user should be able to mark a word or sentence online and have the extension translate it to the user's native language in a hover-pop-up.

Initial early-adopters would be non-native English speakers on UpWork, Fiverr or similar to want to be professional, but lack the native language ability. That is currently prohibiting them from winning jobs because it makes the job poster nervous about the communication.

Hi @rasulkireev and anyone else! I'm gauging interest if anyone wants to grab coffee/tea in the next week and share their progress on their bootstrapping journey in person in this post. https://www.indiehackers.com/post/grab-a-coffee-tea-and-share-progress-in-nyc-15f250cfed
Would love to connect with more bootstrapers in Brooklyn/NYC area :-)

    1. 1

Sorry the the lack of response here :) Obviously with the Coronavirus outbreak, this is going to be pretty hard. Make sure to make a post in this group once it is over. I'm sure once the virus subsides we will be hungry for personal meetups!

  6. 2

Long Island founder here! Would love to meet up.

    1. 2

Hey Philip, would be cool to meet a fellow indiehacker. Do you attend NYC meetups at all?

      1. 2

Nope, didnt know about it. Cant come tomorrow :/ next one!

  7. 1

Long Island indiehacker here. Running a Computer Forensics firm (billable hours service business) and starting a SAAS to manage legal documents. I'm keeping my eye out for meetups to attend.

    1. 1

You should talk to @philipimperato 😃

Hey Rasul! Long time lurker of Indie Hackers here but looking to change that. I'm based in Woodside, Queens and would love to meet up and learn more about becoming a founder.

I've an idea for a blog platform that I'm making using React. I'm currently working on that.

    1. 1

Hey @JabbariA86, nice to see you join.

You should put it as a Product here on Indiehackers. I feel like the earlier you do it, the better. You can get some feedback pretty quickly.

      1. 1

I am definitely looking forward to that. I am currently in the midst of building my product (and thus don't even have a URL). I just went to try and put my product up on IndieHackers but it looks like it needs a URL. Will be looking to fix that.

    Rasul,

Currently trying to find one or more developers for a side-project.

I'm near Flatiron. Where are you at?

    1. 1

I think this is a great idea, I would love to hear more about it. One worry of mine is that it is going to be very hard to be built. Have you written any code thus far? Can you email me or message on Twitter, I'd love to disciss more!
