Hey, y'all!
It took me more time to figure out what happened than to build my product. π
Well, let's start with the product: gpic was built in 12 hours. It's a free image optimizer and hosting service. Hosted on Vercel, I decided to buy the following domain: gpic.site.
On Tuesday, I launched on ProductHunt, posted on DEV, Reddit, etc. Every hour people were voting, uploading images, etc. Great! (We got 120 images on our first day!)π₯³
In the middle of the day, I got this on ProductHunt:
What a feeling. I was renting a car at the time, I stopped somewhere, turned the hotspot on, and started the process to see what happened. π§
Nothing on Namecheap. Started a chat with their support, they said that was "Vercel's fault" since I had changed the nameservers.
Vercel's support said that the problem was with Namecheap, and asked to check again. (Luckily, they took just a couple of hours, and not days as they say on the website).
The solution: change all the references for my product to http://gpic.vercel.app/.
Total downtime: 30 min.
After almost 2 days, Namecheap displayed this on my dashboard:
It seems that by a "Proactive Analysis", my domain was categorized as "Malware/Phishing". π±
I contacted them, and now I'm waiting to see what happens.
What a ride. I never had this problem.
Whid did I buy that domain? Because it was $2 dollars. π΅
Lesson learned: have an action plan if something like this happens again.
And its back! Finally! I will never buy a ".site" domain again π
