On Social Anxiety and Building in Public

https://www.curious.builders/blog/social-anxiety-and-building-in-public

I recently experienced a lot of social anxiety trying to build in public.

Does anyone else share my feelings?

Don't worry it's normal. I got a ton of anxiety just telling people about my first SAAS product. However, when you listen to real feedback from real paying customers and continue refining your product it'll turn into something you can be proud of. Keep at it.

      You are 100% right!

Yeah. Luckily it gets easier with time as my comfort zone expands.

Are you for real? I mean, you don't have to feel like that. You're putting so much pressure on you, be kind with yourself and enjoy the journey.

Take a break, breath, enjoy the day, I'm telling this, because I felt like you. The first Newton Law's says "a body at rest will remain at rest unless an outside force acts on it". You have to do things that push yourself out of your comfort zone.

Do one new thing everyday and it'll change your life, don't focus on the outcome, focus on doing it.

      Very much for real yes.

Thank you for the comment. Your two points are exactly why I find this hard: you have to be kind to yourself and also push your limits. I think it is indeed possible to do in a good way but I also think there is no way around the uncomfortable feeling.

Yes, be uncomfortable is what makes you stronger. Hope all the best.

I experienced a little bit of anxiety at the beginning, but I found a very supportive and cool community.

I would say to everyone that wants to build in public to take the first step and you will find inspiration and a lot of support on the way!

Yeah. This is also my experience.

I've received nothing but support and good vibes.

I feel you -- I wrote an article about this that I'll link, the gist being I was super uncomfortable doing things in public until I just started doing it, and realized... in the best and worst way, no one cares!

That was pretty liberating. Highly recommend the book "Show Your Work" by Austin Kleon that helped me get to this realization. The full article I wrote about this is here: https://posttruth.substack.com/p/who-am-i-trying-to-impress

I feel you. I’m not the type of person who brags about myself, so it doesn’t come naturally to me either

    1. 1

      Yeah.

I think there is a mindset shift. It's not about bragging. It is about sharing your work with the world so it can help people.

      Still working on it :)

You're not alone on the boat. Everyone fears the sea during their first journey, but by the time, it will become easy.

Yeah. I already feel much more comfortable doing things I feared just weeks ago.
