On the experience of being poor-ish

I'm an atheist. But a mental model I haven't been able to unsee after first seeing it is the Matthew effect, which is based on this line from the Bible:

For to every one who has, will more be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away.

It's one thing to understand this in theory, but it's another to read how one of this guy's children has significant dental care needs, yet teeth are "luxury bones" that insurance doesn't cover.

This essay is SO spot on.

A wonderful article. Some of the comments are incredibly defensive, and seem angry at the writer for being poor.
