One Cold DM Changed the Featly Roadmap

Building a startup this early is weird.
You can spend days planning features, thinking about positioning, and deciding what V2, V3 and V4 should look like.
Then one conversation can make you question all of it.
I've been doing cold outreach for Featly, mainly trying to find SaaS founders who actually have the problem we're solving: understanding what users do inside their products and turning that behaviour into better product decisions.
One of those cold DMs turned into something I wasn't expecting.
Instead of simply talking about Featly, the founder suggested a potential partnership between our products.
His product looks at a different part of the user journey, while Featly focuses on what happens inside the product.
We started discussing what a collaboration could look like.
But because Featly is still in beta, I didn't want to jump straight into buying anything, integrating an API, or bundling another product into Featly.
So I suggested something much simpler:
Let's run a small pilot with our first beta users and see if there's actually demand.
He agreed.
And honestly, that's probably the most interesting thing about building at this stage.
Your roadmap isn't always something you create in isolation.
Sometimes your users, your outreach, and random conversations with other founders create the next version of the product for you.
I've already planned V1–V4 for Featly.
Maybe V5 comes from a cold DM I almost didn't send.
For now, we're still validating.
But this is exactly why I'm building in public.
Have you ever had a conversation that completely changed the direction of something you were building?
