We realized one simple thing when testing our landing page: people don't read what you want them to read π
We tried to solve this by keeping our landing page really simple and replace the most part with a simple gif. But does that work?
If you got a chance, check out our gif (https://www.liist.cc) and let me know what your thoughts are. What do you think Liist is about?
First impression it's not responsive and doesn't look good on a 1080p screen. So to mimic my real-life behaviour, I closed it.
Well gif is nice and vivid but it's useless I would say. It's really complicated to understand what's going on there. Explainer video would be better there, but the good one! And yes I know - they are too expensive for early phase MVPs and bootstraped startups.
The only and the best way to explain how your concept works is just build clear "how it works" page, listing the usecase you're dealing with, covered with step-by-step snippets with clear and short descriptions + illustrations.
I don't agree that people don't read what you want them to read. If they don't probably you're targeting wrong audience? Right people, usually read, because they're curious in any new/better possible solution to their problem, the question is how clear is your explanation and how to measure that.
Thank you for the feedback guzguz.
As you guessed, we really can't afford a proper how-to video at the moment π. But it seems that you are right and the gif does not do a good job at explaining the product on its own.
I had to watch the GIF a few times to "get it" - I think this might have to do with calling them "Landing pages" maybe I'm biased because I think of a landing page as something for a product/company but you're using them for recommendations? (I think)
But the GIF is super cool though

Absolutely agree with both of you guys! We didn't had much time setting up a landing page until now and thought this line explained it. Now I see how that could be misunderstood. Thanks a lot for pointing it out
Agree with ndorrell. Lovely gif, but also thought it was a landing page tool on arrival. Neat product idea!!
