One Google signup changed what I'm focusing on

Opinix is now at 28 users.

One of our newest users told us they found Opinix through Google Search.

The interesting part?

I can't currently see the exact search query that brought them in.

So instead of treating “Google” as a success metric, I'm taking it as a tracking problem first.

I want to eventually be able to see:

source → signup → first completion → reward → return

That way I can tell the difference between a channel that sends traffic and a channel that actually sends users who stay.

For now, I'm continuing to work on SEO while keeping X as one of our main discovery channels.

Still a tiny sample, but that's exactly why I want the tracking in place early.

Treating one Google signup as a tracking problem first is smart at 28 users. I'd settle for a ugly sheet before a perfect dashboard: utm or landing path, signup time, first completion, then whether they came back in 7 days. Even if the exact query stays blank, youll see if Google people finish the loop or just create an account and vanish.

At 28 users, treating one Google signup as a tracking problem is the right instinct. When you count those signups, I'd also separate addresses whose domains have no MX or sit on a throwaway list, so organic wins aren't mixed with dead contacts.

At 28 users you can skip the tracking stack for now and just ask. One line in the welcome email, "how did you find us, and what did you search for?", gets you the query Search Console won't show you, and the answer is usually more useful than the attribution anyway. Put the tracking in once replies can't keep up with the signups.

one google signup changing focus rings true - auth friction data always surprises. we skipped signup entirely on swapfile.live (free file conversion, no account) and the tradeoff is real: lower friction in, zero relationship after. did the signup change your activation numbers enough to justify the drop-off?
