Back in 2018, I had a hypothesis that getting some attention online would be helpful in my solopreneur journey.
So when it came time to create, I picked LinkedIn.
I did this for no other reason than I knew a few people who were growing their audience successfully on that platform. Back then, Twitter was still a place where I got updates on the news and looked at random trends.
Fast forward to 2021, and I have around 71k followers on LinkedIn, and I’ve been able to support 3 different businesses directly through this channel. But, I still have a relatively small email list (~4,100 subscribers) and Twitter following (~3,500).
So, in 2021, I’ve been focused on an inward/outward momentum content web that acquires both Twitter followers and email subscribers.
Inward momentum: Taking a pre-built audience and pulling them inward into a new platform.
Outward momentum: Having that audience, in that new medium, compound on one piece of content to push it outward to new people on that new platform.
So far, I’ve executed this plan twice with some pretty great results.
Here's the breakdown:
Step 1: Start by creating a long-form piece of content on my blog.

This piece will act as the center of the entire web, but the blog itself does not acquire email subscribers simply by existing out in the world.
The next step will start our momentum machine.
Step 2: Pull inward, a large number of people from pre-built audiences to that valuable piece of content. This creates inward momentum.

While I can pull my pre-built audience to the blog, many "early adopters" have already subscribed over the last few months since I launched.
Some more will subscribe. Many won't. Diminishing returns.
Let's find a lot of new subscribers.
Step 3: The CTA at the end of my blog asks my prebuilt audience to take action with a like or RT on Twitter. This creates compounding action.

Step 4: The compounding action creates outward momentum to a new audience (Twitter), and drives new email subscribers.

Because Twitter is a secondary platform for me, most of the exposure I get is to people who haven't seen my content before.
I'm simply leveraging the inward momentum of pulling in my pre-built audience and then turning that into outward momentum from the compounding on Twitter to grow and collect new emails and followers.
Since introducing a few weeks ago, I've been growing my email list 20x faster than I was just hoping people would trickle in with my content.

Thanks for the TIPS.
I would you advise someone who would like to use LinkedIn as is main plateform for acquiring customers?
I think I read somewhere that you used "Built In Public" on LinkedIn to build that following.
Can you please elaborate on that?
By the way I got into your NewsLetter so you can add IH in your list of platforms :)
I think any platform can be used, I just happened to choose LinkedIn because I knew a few people had been successful there. It seems to be the easiest to master.
Regarding "building in public", I just share what I'm working on and let people ask questions. Nothing much more complicated than that.
The main difference between me and other people is that I'm consistent. I write every weekday morning and almost never miss. Consistency is the winner.
Very useful, thanks. Nice hustle...
Thanks! Appreciate it. I hope the article was helpful.
It had tasty nuggets to digest and use again. I can't complain.
