One SEO Trick to rule them all

Hey Hackers of the Indie kind,

Most of you are looking for new users/customers once you've launched.

Thought I'd drop this nugget real quick on how you can do that with SEO.

Here’s an easy strategy to find the best-fitting keywords and rank almost immediately, resulting in traffic from day 1.

  1. Launch your favorite SEO tool, like Ahrefs, SEMRush, etc.

Make sure you have the paid membership cause that’s gonna make it a lot easier

  1. Now grab a list of your 5-10 biggest competitors

Competitors with the most pages are the best here, as they’ll provide the most value here

  1. Go to keyword analysis and paste the link of any competitor

This is called “Organic Research” in SEMRush or “Organic Keywords” in Ahrefs

  1. Now find the “Keyword Difficulty” setting within the keyword analysis

This should be a maximum of 30 for SEMRush or 20 for Ahrefs

  1. Set the minimum search volume to your preferred setting

High-value keywords should have at least 100 searches, low value should have at least 1,000 searches

  1. Download the list of keywords that fall within these parameters

Or save all the keywords within SEMRush/Ahrefs

  1. Repeat the same process for all the other competitors on your list

Merge the lists in your spreadsheets or saved keyword lists

  1. Manually check each keyword to understand the potential value to your brand

Not every keyword is equally beneficial for your bottom line so make sure you evaluate all of them

Let’s look at how to implement this strategy

Just like with every strategy on here, you’ll find ways to implement this for different niches:

How to implement this for any company

It’s pretty easy to implement this for any website. But something to keep in mind is that you can also go for bigger websites and filter out the keywords using your main keyword.

How to implement this for e-commerce

On top of your direct competitors, you can also search for blogs and additional websites within your niche that are actively writing about your niche.

How to implement this for SaaS

Same with e-commerce, you can easily implement this with additional websites that aren’t necessarily competitors. For example, you can use Medium.com as a competitor and filter within the keywords. Use your main keywords to search within all keywords that Medium targets.
