One Weekly Update, on Marketing

(PREAMBLE: I’m building a weekly habit of posting an update on my project’s blog: FeedSubscription.com. Today I posted the 8-th weekly update, and I thought it might be interesting for our community here too.)

Time flies, and here comes another weekly update. This week my main focus has been on marketing, and, surprisingly, on a newly discovered activity: making sense of the activities recorded by my tracking system.

As I mentioned in other posts, to better understand which features are used and which not, I have incorporated a tracking system. And once a day, I get a report with everything that happened in the system.

By looking at these reports, I was able to pinpoint some places in the app that were confusing to the users. This has led me to discover a few small but significant improvements that I hope will make the system easier to understand. I’m always surprised (and amused 😁) how many imperfections come out as soon as the system gets in front of the user. 🙂

Yesterday, after launching FeedSubscription on Product Hunt, and also posting in a couple other places, I’ve got probably one of the best days in volume: 5x the number of visitors, and the number of signups increased significantly too. 😎

This week it’s been a different kind of work: watching and helping the new users get onboard, reviewing the registered feeds, and sending emails. It’s not my favorite kind of work, but I do understand that it’s a valuable part of building a SaaS, especially now, in the early stages.

Besides this, it business as usual:

  • research for deployment pipeline improvements; (more to come on this one)
    tracking system improvements;
  • fixed a lil bug in the RSS feed checker;
  • infrastructure monitoring and tweaks;
  • research and a small but valuable step towards improving website performance.

Cheers, and see you next week! 👋🙂

    Coool!!! Don’t you think you’ve done a lot of coding work for a marketing week though? I try to keep marketing weeks marketing only, what do you think about that?

    Because as a developer I find that I usually do too much coding and not enough marketing, so I find that to be a useful rule for myself.

      Guilty as charged. 🙂
