Hello folks,
I am new to Indie Hackers and have been thinking about an idea to which I would like to get some of your guys input. It would be great if you guys could tell me:
I am a software engineer and have always appreciated discussions about abstract/philosophical and somewhat controversial topics, this means that I am always the guy at the bar who starts talking about the meaning of life and why we are here.
During my tech interview preparations I have used pramp.com a few times and at one point I thought that something similar could be done for other subjects besides interview questions. This is when I had the idea of having something like pramp , where two or more complete strangers would be matched (in video) together to talk about a specific topic that they are interested in, which would be either in philosophy, politics or cinema.
For the sake of keeping it niched and simpler I narrowed it down to cinema lovers, mainly for two reasons:
This means that every week there would be a different movie for which the discussion groups would focus on. The platform would based on the movie of the week provide the subtopics of discussion, as a way to moderate a little the interaction. Such groups would be randomly formed (maybe up to 4 people) and user could discuss on it as long as they want.
My initial thoughts are to have an income from monthly subscription while capping the number of "weekly discussion group meetings" to users in the free plan. I would also expand to other subjects (through hopefully small changes in the software and market expansion) once the MVP is validated.
That is basically it, since so many folks here have a lot of experience I am curious to know what your general thoughts are.
Interesting idea, but i'm not sure how would you advertise to those people? When I talk regarding movies i talk in person with friends, not with some strangers.
I believe the market can be big enough, especially because netflix etc. is getting really huge, but then I'm thinking of one main problem : why would I pay to talk with 4 random people about movies, what would I benefit from that? I can go to let's say omegle and write down tag "movies" and maybe i could find someone there for free to talk about that or FB groups.
I may be totally wrong, but I don't see the point in paying for something that I can talk with friends / family. It's not solving any problem, but hei Bruno that's just my opinion.
Maybe there could be a newsletter for movie lovers & vote for your favourite "movie of month".
Good luck with the project!
