I originally built OpenASCII because I needed interactive ASCII art for another project. I expected to find a good JavaScript library, but most tools focused on static image conversion or weren't designed to be embedded into modern web apps.
So I started building one.
It renders images and video as high-fidelity ASCII directly in the browser with real-time controls, React support, and a local-first architecture.
Some highlights:
Real-time ASCII rendering
Runs entirely in the browser
React integration
Open source (MIT)
One of the coolest parts of this journey has been seeing developers and creators from around the world try it out and share feedback. That made the project far better than it would have been otherwise.
I'd love to hear your thoughts, especially if you've built graphics libraries, creative coding tools, or browser rendering projects.

Happy to answer any technical questions in the comments.
The interesting part is solving a missing layer between image processing and interactive web experiences.
Open-source tools like this often grow through examples more than features. Curious if you’re planning to build a gallery/showcase of projects using OpenASCII to drive adoption?
