Organizing video game tournaments

Hi yall, I am new here.

Was wondering if a video game tournament hosting web app is a good idea.

Essentially the app would organize tournaments that users can register for and via API integrations and time intervals it would track the player stats (placement, number of kills, number of games played etc...) and assign a final placement to each team participating.

Tournaments could be free to enter to earn credits that can be used for future tournaments, or paid with a prize pool distributed to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

I only see one major player in the space doing this and I think there is a huge market opportunity with the rise of competitive battle royal games like Warzone, Fortnite, Apex, etc...

Anyway would love to get some feedback on this idea and if there are any gamers out there that think this would be cool.

Thank you!

Hi! I've developed a tournament management system for an esports startup.

    A few questions:

    1. who are you trying to serve?
    2. do they have a big enough problem to pay you for your service?
    3. do they pay enough to support your business?

A few "bigger players" in that field:

    1. https://battlefy.com/
    2. https://www.toornament.com/

The ESL for example uses their own tournament system. And bigger organizations like "Bundesliga" (soccer in germany) build their own systems as well.

it would track the player stats (placement, number of kills, number of games played etc...)

There are only a few games supporting a public API to extract player rankings and ingame stats like League of Legends and CSGO. One big problem we had with organizing FIFA20 and FIFA21 tournaments was that the players had to enter the results manually which was error prone and let to a lot of discussions between players and organizers because there were players entering wrong results on purpose.

Really appreciate this info. Here are some answers to your questions:

      1. who are you trying to serve?
        Mainly the Warzone community.

      2. do they have a big enough problem to pay you for your service?
There are a lot of competitive players willing to play on 5-20k tournaments but can't find or get invited to one. Most tournaments of that caliber are being run as publicity stunts and only recognizable twitch pros get invited.

      3. do they pay enough to support your business?
$5-$100 bucks to enroll in the tournament depending on the prize pool. I think most competitive/casual gamers are already making in-game purchases to unlock exclusive weapon variations and skins.

The one company that I see trying to monopolize the market is by raising venture money is: https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/z-league

I appreciate any further input/thoughts, I want to make sure this idea is solid because it would take a good amount of time to design and build.

      :)

Okay. How is your platform different from Z-League? Why should they choose your service?

That's a great question, I would have to think deeper about that.
