Otera - Import API Data into Notion Automatically

Otera is a no-code tool that lets you import data from almost any REST API directly into your Notion database. It was inspired by Andy Cloke's Data Fetcher, a popular tool to connect APIs to Airtable.

The problem

Notion databases are great, but I'd always wished they were less...static. For example, using Notion as a database to track stock holdings, books read, or marketing stats were a chore because of all the manual copy pasting involved. Existing solutions were either too complex or too expensive for simple data imports.

The solution

Otera provides a simple interface for you to:

✅ Connect REST APIs with just a few clicks

✅ No-code setup - Configure API connections through a visual interface

✅ Map data fields for flexible data updating

✅ Schedule automatic imports (hourly, daily, weekly, monthly)

Development journey

• It's been a long (hundreds of hours over the past 2 years!) journey to build Otera into something I'm not entirely embarrassed to share 😅

• As a relatively new full stack developer, I had quite a few setbacks, including:

  • technical ones like figuring out queue systems or handling long-running functions

  • personal ones like balancing a main job, this side project, and other responsibilities

  • silly ones I should have foreseen earlier, like using the word 'Notion' in the initial project name, realizing Notion doesn't allow that name in integrations (rightly so), and then having to update all the marketing pages and domain names to a new one 😁

• Would love to hear what you think of the product, and if it's intuitive enough as a no-code tool
