Hello indie hackers!
I'm working on creating an app that will allow parents of special needs children to have direct on-demand access to sitters who are trained and qualified to care for their child's unique conditions. Recently, I did some validation using the 'fake door' method where I set up a landing page and ran Facebook ads to it for 5 days. My goal was to see how many people would actually click on the 'Join now' button. My results after 5 days were the following:
I think those were pretty solid numbers given that I am planning on having a subscription model for the parents, charging $49/mo, $99 for 3 months and $249 for 12 months. So even a user paying $49 a month, having a cost per click of $4.46, that would mean a ~$44.54 in profit for that user.
Taking this as a good initial validation, I’m now thinking of other types of validation that I can do, such as talking to parents with a special needs child and talking with professionals working with special needs children. So far, I have a full clickable high fidelity prototype built out that I can show to potential users (both parents and sitters) to have them use it to give feedback. Are there other types of validation that you all would recommend given that this would be a two-sided marketplace?
Also, any feedback on my results from my landing page or on the idea, in general, are welcome!
In regards to more validation, have you tried Google Keyword/planner tool for keyword search volume.
I like this CTA
"Sign up below to be the first to know when we launch!"
Are those pricing figures just to give access to the service to find the sitters, who are then paid on top of your subscription costs?
Thanks @innov8or!
Yes, that's correct, the pricing is to get access to the app and be able to communicate with sitters and book them, then sitters are paid separately with whatever rate the sitter sets.
Maybe you can match sitters to parents "manually", without building the actual platform? If the parents will be willing to pay for 3 months or so - that will be a great validation. Plus, I accidentally ran in to this article yesterday, it might help to learn from their problems (maybe you already read this..) - https://www.geekwire.com/2018/demand-childcare-startup-poppy-shuts-despite-building-rave-worthy-service-parents/
GOOD LUCK!
That's definitely something that has crossed my mind and am still considering doing initially. I'd have to build a community around the idea first so I need to start working on that.
Thank you for sharing that article, I hadn't read it yet!
Interesting!
Can you share your site/landing page? (edit: Nvm, found it!)
Kind regards,

Hey Ger,
Actually I think you found the very first landing page I made about 6 months ago, but this is the landing page I used for my facebook ads: http://careability.co/
Let me know your thoughts!

Hey @Primer, yeah the $49 is to get access to the app and be able to communicate with sitters and book them, then the sitters are paid separately with whatever rate the sitter sets.
