Our joke project got significant traction in hackernews

We built consolechat.io in couple of days (as a side project) and posted it in ShowHN.

It started to get traction immediately and within 20 min had like 50 upvotes.

Then started all the spamming and hacking of the service which eventually crashed our servers (and slowed down the upvote trajectory).

In the 24 hours that followed we had like 130 upvotes, 6500 page visits and conversations in (consolechat.io) console that continue to this day.

So what is consolechat about?
It turns browser's console into a global real-time chat. If you're browsing a site that uses ConsoleChat.io you don't need to install any software - just open up your console.

What do you think would it make sense to develop this further?

Would you use consolechat?

That's such a fun idea! I don't know if I'd use it for more than just a laugh, but it's totally worth checking out.

Where do you want to go with this? Just spitballing, you could extend it so that devs can build their own chatrooms, and this could be an easy way to try it out.

      haha thanks @blakemscurr!

Yes we actually just released a feature that lets devs build their own chatrooms.

I think we'll just observe how well consolechat continues to grow and develop it based on the way people (want to) use it.

Sounds interesting although I see it as a niche service more suited to technically minded people.
    Good work

Thx for the comment! Yes that what we were thinking too. Developers are pretty large bunch of people, so perhaps this could work :). Lets see!

Pivot into a Tinder-type dating service?
