Our Notion Web Clipper grows steadily

Slowly but steady we are getting more signups for our Notion Web Clipper.

Just for fun, we have done some math to see where we could be at the end of 2024 if we don’t do anything (and sign up/churn rate stays the same).

It looks like we have 800 users by the end of the year – at the moment we are pricing the premium feature at USD 6 per month. If only two percent get the premium feature, we would make less than 100 bucks per month by the end of the year. IF we wouldn’t do anything.

But since we are increasing our efforts to get more users on board and working with their feedback to reduce bugs and improve the app overall. We are quite optimistic, that we will have a bigger user base by then.

Our strategies to increase sign-ups and get more feedback

At the moment, we want to achieve two things: Grow the user base and use feedback to improve the web clipper. Once the web clipper is out of the beta and we feel more confident, we will send it to notion content creators to review it.

Get more users:

We figured it is a good idea to collect reviews for the Chrome App Store so we will incentivize our users to write them. When someone used Notix successfully, they will see a little pop-up, saying something like “Support us and write a review, and you will get 3 months of free premium.”

More feedback

There are some users who are super eager to help us improve - they have sent us feedback, and we reached out to some of them to get in touch directly. With this user group, we want to try to get more feedback. So we will ask them to record a little video where they walk us through their workflow - talking and thinking out loud while they are working. You might notice that this is like a user test but without moderation. This is for now the best (cheapest and fast) way we know to collect some more insights on UX. If you know other quick and dirty methods, I am all ears.

Write more content (get more users, pt2)

One thing that we I will do whenenever I can, is to publish content on our website. There is only one article now, but I will try to write about solving problems for notion users where a web clipper like ours can come in handy. Thanks for the advice @stephenjeske!

We unshipped a feature!

In my last post I mentioned that we developed a second feature, a recording function with which you can create step-by-step guides and put them right into notion. I think we got too excited about being able to built it to actually see how it fits into the existing tool. Having made the decision now, it seems almost foolish we even considered having the new feature.

Does a side project need goals?

We have been discussing if there is a point in setting a goal like “3000 sign-ups until end of 2024”. On the one hand, it can be motivating, and it can make some of our decisions more clear. But then again, we just need more sign-ups, and we are doing everything we can to achieve that.

For now, we're keeping our goals flexible. We focus on growing sign-ups and improving Notix while staying open to learning and adapting. This approach ensures Notix grows as a valuable tool and remains a project we're passionate about.
