πŸ“¦ Our Retail POS Software Just Hit 3,000+ Users Without SaaS Pricing β€” Here's What We Learned

Hey Indie Hackers,

About a year ago, I launched Off POS, a retail-focused point-of-sale and stock management system designed for small shops and inventory-driven businesses. It’s a one-time purchase product β€” no subscription, no hidden fees. Just install, and you're good to go.

I recently crossed 3,000+ active users (via sales and live installations), and the growth mostly came from non-traditional channels like CodeCanyon, Facebook groups, and community forums.

Why I Built It:

Most POS systems out there are SaaS with monthly billing, which is great β€” unless you're a small business in a developing country. Many of our customers just want something simple, offline-capable, and affordable.

What Helped Us Grow:

  • 🌍 Targeting underserved regions where SaaS is expensive

  • πŸ’¬ Listening to feedback & updating features (multi-language, barcode support, cash flow tracking)

  • πŸ›’ Offering a full-featured demo version

  • πŸ’° One-time payment β€” customers love that

Lessons So Far:

  • Indie products can still win if you understand your audience's real needs

  • Simplicity > Feature overload

  • Support and trust go a long way, especially in B2B tools

I’m continuing to improve the product and exploring more localized features (e.g. VAT receipts, language packs). If you're building something for small businesses, I’d love to swap notes.
